Mother’s strength…it’s not necessarily what comes our way, that which affects our life…it’s how we handle it. Our strength is what defines us – the mothers. As mothers, we must hide negative emotions from our children. We ignore the loneliness, the sadness, the stress, the depression, the anger that may find us now and then along the way the best we can. We must create an emotionally supportive home.

A Mother’s Strength

For a single mother, the responsibility falls upon her to hold her family together. It is a mother’s strength that teaches her children by example how to approach the adverse, approach life’s ups and downs, handle relationships, be a positive influence to others. I hope the poem I wrote, I Am The Strength, bring inspiration and strength when needed.

I Am The Strength

I am a mother.

I am the strength.

Sadness, stay inside…

but, you leave me alone in a crowd.

I am a mother.

I am the strength.

I hold my family together.

I create the balance.

Sadness, you are here,

inside the core of my being.

I don’t know why you come to me –

or do I?

Sadness, you must stay quiet…

for I am the mother –

the strength.

Sadness, don’t even let out a whisper…

I have purpose,

a reason for being.

Sadness, I won’t let you take over…

for I am the mother –

the strength.

Sadness, you have come again,

inside the core of my being.

I know why you have come.

Sadness, do not show yourself…

I am the daughter –

the strength.

Sadness, hide yourself in my smile…

I have purpose,

a reason for being.

Sadness, you come to me from both sides…

I am the mother, the daughter –

the strength.
