Our new grandson will arrive on April 29! We are all excited. Since we know the sex, we want to be surprised with the name…although Emily tells us her baby brother’s name is Luke. She’s very definite about it. Her sister and parents aren’t telling the grandparents.
I didn’t go with Poppy today to visit our granddaughters because I have a bad cold and don’t want to give it to them. Home alone, while surfing YouTube for videos that might be of interest to grandparents, I found a few videos that might help with caring for infant and toddler grandchildren.
This YouTube video shows how to use the “5 S’s” by experienced pediatrician, Dr. Harvey Karp, (swaddling, shooshing, turning on the side, swinging, and sucking) and in just seconds, the baby is calm. There are more 5 S’s videos on YouTube made by parents demonstrating the same stragegies with their crying infants…and it actually works!
Don’t be surprised if you see these 5 S’s used in the hospital and day care nurseries. I’m definitely going to practice them and I’m sure our daughter and son-in-law will, too. Take a few minutes to check this out…
