You are here to find comfort and strength in the words of funeral poems for children and grandchildren.
All too often lately we hear of children dying…some from life incomplete, some from illness, some from the carelessness of others, and in the past few years…from the hatred and anger of those who are already lost.
A few years ago, I began this post and saved the draft. Little did I believe I would find the need to share this along with 5 Memorial Funeral Poems for Children with so many mourning the loss of children.
7 Funeral Poems for Children and Grandchildren
We mourn the loss of our sweet angels. We rejoice in the short time they were given to us. Now they have returned to Heaven where they are truly safe. We find comfort knowing that they will be with us once more for eternity.
This is the theme of the following 7 funeral poems for children. Some of the following poems could be used in a child’s obituary. The poems may be personalized by changing and adding words in tribute to your child.

Heavenly Home
Our darling has gone to the angels above
Where there’s nothing but
happiness, joy and love.
Gone from this world, so full of strife,
Back to the God who gave her life.
But rejoice that God chose
our sweet flower for His own,
And has taken her back to His Heavenly home.

A Child is Loaned
“I’ll lend you for a little time
A child of Mine.” He said.
“For you to love the while he lives
And mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven year
Or twenty-two or three
But will you, till I call him back
Take care of him for Me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you
And should his stay be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay
Since all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want the child to learn.
I’ve looked this wide world over
In my search for teacher’s true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes,
I have selected you;
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain
Nor hate Me when I come to call
And take him back again?”
I fancied that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,
For the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness,
We’ll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
Much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.”

Golden Memories
They say memories are golden,
well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a
place no one else could fill.
If tears could build
a stairway and heartache make a lane,
I’d walk the path to Heaven and
bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken, and
nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us back one by one,
the chain will link again.

God Took Him To His Loving Home
God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be.
He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’
He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend.
He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.
He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain,
God took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain.

The Day God Took You Home
In tears we saw you sinking,
And watched you pass away.
Our hearts were almost broken,
We wanted you to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping,
So peaceful, free from pain,
How could we wish you back with us,
To suffer that again. It broke our hearts to
lose you, But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.

Precious Son
God, I know you gave your precious Son
To give us life with You.
But we didn’t want our son to leave,
Cause he was precious too.
We all are special in your eyes
And all to you return.
We know our son will not come back,
And for this our hearts still yearn.
Our time on earth is for learning,
And when our lessons are through,
Our Lord will choose the time we leave,
And we come back to you.
Our precious son is with you,
And there will be a day,
That we too will leave this earth,
And you will light our way.
His arms will be wide open,
And the wait will be worthwhile,
When we see again our precious son,
And the splendor of his smile.

With The Angels
If only the sky could open;
And his dear little face I could see;
Oh, what a wonderful feeling;
I know would come over me.
But he is with the Angels;
Far from sin and pain;
Where Jesus said: “Believe in Me,
And thou shalt see him again.”
