Friendship poems and friendship quotes are a great way of letting your friends know how much you appreciate their loyal, supportive, never ending friendship. Include a friendship poem, friendship recipe, or friendship quote in an invitation to spend the day together visiting antique stores, getting pampered at a spa, play golf or tennis, taking in a movie together, or by just having a leisurely lunch or dinner at your house or a favorite restaurant. If you are fortunate to have many friends, plan a pot luck picnic to be held at a park where there are several fun things that you can do together or bring some along.

For younger friends, learn to make friendship bracelets together. This is a great summer activity. Many of the summer camps teach this craft.

National Friendship Day

“Celebrate the happiness that friends are always giving,
make every day a holiday and celebrate just living!”
~ Amanda Bradley ~

National Friendship Day, proclaimed by U.S. Congress in 1935, is celebrated on the first Sunday in August. The official international Ambassador of Friendship Day is none other than that lovable friend to all, Winnie the Pooh.

My granddaughter’s 8th birthday party with friends (family is the next week) is on August 1. Some of her closest friends will be sleeping over. When I told her Friendship Day is on that Sunday, she got very excited. We’re going to plan a special friendship breakfast for her dad to make on Friendship Day and then they’ll learn to make the friendship bracelets before they go home. (This year it is also Ice Cream Sandwich Day, too…dessert for her friends breakfast?)

Recipe for Friendship, poem

Fold two hands together,
And express a dash of sorrow,
Marinate it overnight,
And work on it tomorrow.
Chop one grudge in tiny pieces,
Add several cups of love,
Dredge with a large sized smile,
And mix the ingredients above.
Dissolve the hate within you,
By doing a very good deed,
Dash in some help for any friend,
If they should be in need.
Stir in laughter, love and kindness,
From the heart it has to come,
Mix with genuine forgiveness,
And give your neighbour some.
The amount of people you can serve,
From the recipe above,
Is in the quality of its ingredients,
And unlimited amounts of love.
This recipe’s for the whole wide world,
For everyone to make,
Just get it all together,
And cook for God’s own sake!

Amish Friendship Bread Recipe

A fun cooking with children project is making Amish Friendship Bread. You’ll need 10 days to prepare this friendship bread to share with your friends. Friendship Day can be any day you get together with your friends. Make this friendship bread for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any holiday – not just for Friendship Day.

Friendship Bread Starter

This is the Amish Friendship Bread Starter Recipe that you’Â’ll need to make the Amish Friendship Bread (below). It is very important to use plastic or wooden utensils and plastic or glass containers when making this. Do not use metal at all!

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water for about 10 minutes. Stir well.
  2. In a 2 quart glass or plastic container, combine 1 cup sifted flour and 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or the flour will get lumpy when you add the milk.
  3. Slowly stir in warm milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Loosely cover the mixture with a lid or plastic wrap. The mixture will get bubbly. Consider this Day 1 of the cycle, or the day you receive the starter.

For the next 10 days handle starter according to the instructions below for Amish Friendship Bread.

  • Day 1 – receive the starter (the recipe for the starter is above)
  • Day 2 – stir
  • Day 3 – stir
  • Day 4 – stir
  • Day 5 – Add 1 cup each flour, sugar and milk.
  • Day 6 – stir
  • Day 7 – stir
  • Day 8 – stir
  • Day 9 – stir
  • Day 10 – Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Divide into 4 containers, with 1 cup each for three of your friends and 1 cup for your own loaves. Give friends the instructions for Day 1 through Day 10 and the following recipe for baking the bread.

4.  After removing the 3 cups of batter, combine the remaining cup of Amish Friendship Bread starter with the following ingredients in a large bowl:

  • 2/3 cup oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda

5.  Using a fork, beat by hand until well blended. You can add 1 cup raisins and 1 cup nuts (optional).

6.  Grease two loaf pans with butter, sprinkle with sugar instead of flour.

7.  Bake at 325 degrees F for 45 minutes to 1 hour (individual oven temperatures vary). Cool 10 minutes, remove from pans. Makes two loaves of Amish Friendship Bread.

Friendship Poems

Often, friends express their affection in friendship poems. Here are friendship poems you may want to share with your friends in original handmade cards made with love just for them…Buy card stock paper at a craft store, add a friendship poem or quote plus a photo of you and your friend(s), then embellish with card decorations, stickers, or your own art work that reflect your relationship.

A Golden Chain

Friendship is a Golden Chain,
The links are friends so dear,
And like a rare and precious jewel
It’s treasured more each year…

It’s clasped together firmly
With a love that’s deep and true,
And it’s rich with happy memories
and fond recollections, too…

Time can’t destroy its beauty
For, as long as memory lives,
Years can’t erase the pleasure
That the joy of friendship gives…

For friendship is a priceless gift
That can’t be bought or sold,
But to have an understanding friend
Is worth far more than gold…

And the Golden Chain of Friendship
Is a strong and blessed tie
Binding kindred hearts together
As the years go passing by.

You My Friend

You my friend
You don’t always show it,
but I know that you care.

You My friend
If I’d ever need you,
I know you’d be there.

You I’m glad you’re my friend.
Your smile makes me smile.
Your pain makes me hurt.

You My friend
I want you to know:
If you need me–I’m there.
make you happy, make you laugh.

You My friend
Sometimes you make me mad,
but I can’t stay mad.

You My friend
Sometimes I want to get away from you.
And sometimes there’s nothing I want more than:
to talk to you, to tell you about my day,
to hear about yours, to laugh with you,
to tease you, to share an inside joke,
that no one else would get,
to argue with you,
but know we’re just kidding..

You My friend
Do you remember the time when…?
There are so many times.

You My friend
Don’t ever lose the wonderful person you are.
Stay happy. Stay healthy. Stay you.

You My friend
I’ll never stop being your friend.
Don’t ever stop being mine.

You My friend
Just wanted to tell you:
I care.
