Grandparents: Online Poker
This topic of grandparents playing on TV recently and found myself wondering how many grandparents play poker, are there poker tournaments for grandparents…and could poker games be played online by those who are unable or unwilling to travel.
My grandparent friends don’t play poker games, but is that a realistic sampling? So being the curious being that I am, I did some research on the subject to find information on the number of senior citizens playing online poker and what are the benefits? Also, what online poker games are the most popular with grandparents who play…Texas Hold Em, Omaha, 5-Card Draw, or another?
POKERSTARS.COM – Owner found guilty in NY Court on March 26, 2020

About PokerStars
PokerStars has been in enterprise for over 15 years. Though the corporate began as a play-money service solely, the main target has been on real-money poker for greater than a decade. After neglecting the USA UIEGEA legislation of 2006, the corporate reached a settlement with the U.S. Division of Justice in 2012. This settlement allowed PokerStars to return to the U.S. – in Nevada and New Jersey – which had legalized on-line playing.
On April 15, 2011, the Division of Justice seized the pokerstars.com area identify, together with fulltiltpoker.com and several other others. On April 20, the pokerstars.com and fulltiltpoker.com domains have been returned for the aim of serving to to facilitate the withdrawal of US gamers’ funds.
Stats on Grandparents Playing Online Poker
My Baby Boomer generation comprises approximately fifteen percent of the current population. According to the American Journal of Geriatric Psychology seventy percent gamble…a real surprise to me unless buying lottery tickets are included in that statistic. With more and more Baby Boomers becoming Internet savvy grandparents, the growing number of grandparents gambling online is ever increasing.
Benefits of Playing Online Poker
The benefits of participating in activities that senior citizens enjoy are beneficial for their health placing them at a lower risk for health risks such as dementia. Online activities help prevent boredom and the feeling of isolation, which has shown to lead to depression and ill health. An University of Toronto professor, Ronald Baecker, is leading a research team in designing an online poker game for senior citizens that will allow them to make connections with others by chatting and planning strategies with a partner.
Grandparents’ Favorite Poker Games
I wasn’t able to find any information on which poker games are the most favorite of grandparents. But, I did search for the “easiest” poker game to learn since I’ll have to learn the basics before I get into the “big time” challenges of playing poker online. The advice I found in my research was to first learn how to play 5-Card Draw which is basic poker. After I learn how to play poker basics, I’ll be able to move on to the more challenging games! (My husband is laughing….)
I’m going to learn more about online poker playing and I’ll post again soon.
