A Boy Needs a Grandpa

Filed under: Grandpa Poems, Grandparent Poetry | — Nana @ 9:47 am

Studies have shown that children who have a Grandpa or Grandma, or both, to support and guide them in their emotional lives are more likely to do better in school and to stay out of trouble.

If you know a young boy who doesn’t have a Grandpa in his life and you have a good relationship with his family, ask them if the boy could “adopt” you as his Grandpa. The same goes for young girls and “Grandma” relationships.

For Grandparents Day, why not start being a positive role model, a Grandparent, to a boy or girl who really needs one. Start something good…you could make a big difference in a young person’s life…and yours, too!

A Boy Needs A Grandpa

A boy needs a Grandpa…
For man-to-man talks,
To go hand in hand
On companionable walks,

To fix up his toys
When they no longer go,
To tell him the things
Little boys want to know.

A boy needs a Grandpa…
To show him the way
To handle a puppy,
To teach him fair play.

To impart bits of wisdom
He’s learned through the years,
That it’s no disgrace
For a man to shed tears.

A boy needs a Grandpa…
To sit on his lap
And if no one is looking,
They take a wee nap,

Each wrapped in an aura
Of love and esteem,
Each smiling gently
At some special dream.

Grandpa’s Shirt Pocket

Filed under: Grandpa Poems | — Nana @ 9:21 am

Grandpa is always full of fun and surprises. Here is a poem for every Grandpa that brings special treats to his grandchildren hidden in his shirt pocket! What fun Grandpas are! Kaitlin and Emily’s Poppy brings Milk Duds and quarters, and sometimes Pops. It is a ritual now, he can’t leave without them getting their treats and lots of hugs and kisses.

Grandpa’s Shirt Pocket

Now some kids have a grandpa.
Some have quite a few.
But mine´s the bestest grandpa
 That anyone ever knew.

He´s not just ordinary
 He´s got a special call.
He sounds like Woody Woodpecker,
I can hear him clear down the hall.

And boy, do I come runnin´,
‘Cause he´s got more you see.
He´s got a special shirt pocket
With things in it just for me.

And if I cuddle up
And give a great big kiss,
All kinds of little surprises come out,
 I wouldn´t want to miss.

He used to give us gum,
But mom said, “Not any more.”
I guess she kept a findin´ it,
Smashed into the family room floor.

But heck, I don´t even care
And I don´t tell no fibs.
He´s got something better now.
For our kisses we get Nibs.

But my sister likes the fire.
He can turn it on for us.
And even the little babies
Can blow it out without a fuss.

And then we laugh when it blows out
He makes sure it doesn´t hurt.
It´s amazing what fun there is
In the pocket of his shirt.

But that´s not all there´s one more thing
He rubs it on our lips quick.
He calls it his chapstick,
But we call it our lipstick.

Some grandpa´s give kids money
And tell them not to drop it.
But ours gives hugs and kisses
 And surprises from his pocket.

Poem: Grandchild to Grandpa

Filed under: Grandchildren Poetry, Grandpa Poems, Poems by NanasCorner | — Nana @ 12:56 pm

Grandpa, Teach It All to Me

Grandpa,
Did Mother Goose know Dr. Seuss?
Why did the woman live in a shoe?

Grandpa,
How could a cow jump over the moon?
Why did the dish run away with the spoon?

Grandpa,
I’m going to be four.
I want to know more than before. (more…)
