Grandparents and Grandchildren Together: Grandchildren Graduation Poems

How Do You Get From Here to There?

How do you get from here to there?
Well, you first must believe you can
Let no one tell you differently~
It’s your life and it’s in your hands.

Then turn your dreams into your goals
And see what you need now
To satisfy the requirements:
The why, the where and how.

At first you’re overwhelmed, of course;
There’s so much for you to know.
But keep your faith, be strong and sure,
For you do have a way to go.

Take careful steps and do them right,
Take pride in each thing done.
Don’t look too far ahead of yourself,
Just that next step yet to come.

Before you know it you’ll be there,
Your dream will then be real.
And you’ll be standing where I am now,
Telling others how good it feels.

You’ll tell them not to quit themselves,
To have faith, though it’s hard to bear.
So they will know it can be done~
They, too, can get from here to there.

Grandparents and Grandchildren Together: Grandchildren Poems

Grandchildren grow so fast, where does the time go? Grandchildren start out so helpless, so dependent on those who love them…grandparents more so than ever before. There’s nothing in this world that compares to being a grandparent…no words can express the emotions that grow from the first moment grandparents learn that a grandchild will soon be part of their loving family. The following poems express some of those feelings and remind us just how fast our grandchildren do grow before our very eyes. (Print Fingerprints and place your grandchild’s handprint on the paper, then frame and hang where you can see it every day.) (more…)

Grandparents and Grandchildren Together: Birthday Poem for Two Year Old

Granddaughter Emily, age 2I wrote this birthday poem for my granddaughter, Emily, when she turned two years old in January:

Who’s Two Today!

Who’s two today!
It must be you…

Cake and ice cream!
It’s not a dream…

Games and toys!
Make some noise…

Giggles and squeals!
A yummy meal…

It’s your big day!
Get up and play…

Run and hop!
Don’t you stop…

A rocking horse!
Yes, yes, of course…

Dora, Thomas!
Love you, promise…

A big balloon!
Watch it zoooom…

Family, good friends!
Love never ends…

Poem: Grandchild to Grandpa

Grandpa, Teach It All to Me

Grandpa,
Did Mother Goose know Dr. Seuss?
Why did the woman live in a shoe?

Grandpa,
How could a cow jump over the moon?
Why did the dish run away with the spoon?

Grandpa,
I’m going to be four.
I want to know more than before. (more…)

My Grandchild’s Loving Smile

My Grandchild’s Loving Smile

What stays with me and makes me melt…
What’s more valuable than all else…
What makes my heart skip a beat…
What gives me such a special treat…
What do I long to see all the while…
My grandchild’s warm and loving smile.

I Love You, My Grandchild

Before I knew you,
I loved you.
The first time I held you,
I adored you.
My life belongs to you,
I rejoice in you.
My grandchild, you.
