Listening to and singing Christmas songs is a fun way to teach children about poems and rhyme. As you enjoy the Christmas songs with your children or grandchildren, make a game of discovering the rhyming words – whether it is end rhyme or internal rhyme. Everyone loves singing Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman, just to name a few of my old favorites that are great examples of alliteration, too. Plus, there are some classic Christmas movies that just can’t be left out of the fun Christmas nostalgia list, such as How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with their own wonderful rhyming patterns, and Mickey’s Christmas Carol plus a couple of favorite animated Christmas movies of my grandkids – Shrek the Halls and Merry Madagascar Christmas.

I found these favorite Christmas songs and animated movies on YouTube which I thought you might enjoy along with me. Share them with your friends, children, and grandchildren when you get together for Christmas, on facebook, or send them the links. May you all have a very Merry Christmas!

I know the older ones, but I must admit that I haven’t seen most of the newer movies. My grands usually see them with their parents in the movie theaters, but they would probably be happy to watch them again with me. Maybe this week we’ll have a movie night with Netflix or Red Box.
