Welcome to Nana’s Corner. I’m glad you stopped by!
A little about Nana: My husband and I dated for three weeks (I was away visiting my sister for the 2nd week which was Christmas) and then he proposed on New Year’s Day. We were married 10 months later. Our parents thought it would never last. That was 37 years ago. We now have three children and two grandchildren, K and Em…and a grandson due April 29. My husband, Poppy, has been retired for the past 10 years. (He gets to play with the grandchildren more than I do – I’m sooo jealous!)
I am a high school special education teacher in New Jersey. I am presently an in-class support teacher for students with learning disabilities in Algebra 2, English 11, and Career Education classes. I won’t be retiring for another 6 years. That’s ok, I like what I do, except for the commute up and down the Parkway every day.
Writing and playing with computers are two things I’ve enjoyed for a long time so my son suggested I start a blog. (He’s an Internet Marketing specialist.) My greatest joys are my grandchildren and children so I chose to blog about topics: poems, staying in touch, healthy living, and fun things to do with grandchildren – some to do in New Jersey with grandchildren – all that impact our relationships with our grandchildren.
Feel free to leave a comment on my posts. I enjoy hearing from grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, too! Thanks for visiting!

My husband was slow — we dated for four weeks before he proposed! But then we got married four weeks after that. And now we have been married 52 years. We’re all very lucky, aren’t we!

You seem like a hip grandmother! I didn’t know there were many people in your generation that were good on the computer. Keep it up. Peace

Hello Nana! I’m Nana to my grandchildren too! I think we have much in common, although I retired in December…after 44 years as a dental hygienist. It was a job I loved, but my passion has been blind grandmother, reproducing and updating music she wrote recorded in 1949 on 78rpm records. My children’s book was frosting on the cake! It is soooo important for us to teach our children about their roots and continue the legacy.

At last I get back to you. Life is so active. I was interested to read about your profession. My son works at the local Performig Arts High School and he is the teacher in charge of children who are not ‘average’, those who have hearing or sight problems, those who are Aboriginal or Immigrants. He loves his work.
I look forward to hearing about your son’s project.
Yours,
Brenda

Hi to All,
I am also known as Nana but alot older then those who have written. I am 88 years old and was married for 67 years before the love of my life passed just three years ago. I’m Nana to my daughters grandchildren age 2 and 4. In fact we are four generations of girls. My daughter read this web site to me and I asked her to write on my behalf. I feel very fortunate and blessed to be called Nana and when I put my head down on my pillow at night its the memories of the days that I spend with my greatgrandchildren that warm my heart.
Thank you

Hi Nana
We have one daughter. For 2 1/2 years we have commuted 6 hours each way so we could spend weekends with our granddaughter and really bond. The other grandparents live where they are and we didn’t want to be grandparents in name only. Now she is set to celebrate her 3rd birthday and we are set to retire and move to live near them.
As soon as our daughter told us she was pregnant, I had a long list of names I was choosing from because I wanted to be called something unique. My daughter didn’t like any of the names on my list and she liked Nana. That was one name I didn’t want to be called because of another Nana I had known.
The first time my sweet girl called me Nana my heart melted. Now she says “I have something to tell you” and I’ll say “what”? She says “I love you Nana” and I can’t think of a more beautiful name in the world.

Hi Nana,
I’m “Baba” to 2 granddaughters I call “Munchkie” and “Pixie.” The older one, Juliet, who’s almost 6 named me when she was 1. I love hearing them call me Baba.
Hope to hear back from you soon. We grandmas need to share our resources.

Hi there Nana, I too am a Nana of six wonderful grandbabies{I, use the term loosely, as the eldest two are about to turn 15} I inherited the name from my Nana and I strive every day to be as wonderful to my angels as she was to me and my siblings. Hearing Nana called out from the lips of those sweet little creatures is like getting a huge cosmic hug full of love and light. If only everyone on the planet could feel what it’s like, there would be no wars. So in the mean time we’ll just hope and pray that we get there some day.Sending many blessings to all you Nanas out there from she who is thankful, grateful and eternally blessed!

Nana: Reading over your site, really touches my heart. I am a mother and a grandmother. However, I am not able at this time to see my grandchildren. Some have moved away and others, do to dvorce. I miss them all very much. However, I work with children and involved in a ministry for children and families. I do lots of activities and crafts with them and as always looking for ones that show and tell, people how much they mean to us. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas with us. Bless you. Valencia

I am new at being a Nana (2 weeks) Does any one know where you can purchase outfits for babies that say Nana Loves you?? Also my husband is called Poppy. In the stores you usually see Garndma and Grandpa loves me outfits.
Thanks.

Nana,
Hi, I’m Maribeth from the Philippines and like you, I’m a teacher. I was looking for samples of alliteration poems for my 5th grade class when I saw this blog of yours. I’m not techno savvy so I hope this message reach you. Thank you so much for placing these old time favorites because it makes lesson preparation easy and fun. Hugs to your children and grandchildren.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comment. I enjoy receiving feedback. I understand completely – I, too, am a teacher. I can remember back just 15 years ago when it took hours to find materials on the Internet to help with lesson planning. Now it is easy to find just about anything you need. When I searched for alliteration examples, I found few and those were scattered so I decided to add as many as I can to NanasCorner.com. If your students would like me to post their alliteration examples, I’d be happy to. If you have suggestions for other lesson topics, please let me know.

I’ve just visited your blog and wanted to share with you that we’ve just come out with our new 5th edition of Grandloving: Making Memories with Your Grandchildren. I wrote it with our daughter-in-law and our daughter and with input from 350 families worldwide who shared their best ideas. Please visit our site http://www.grandloving.com and let me know if you would like more information.
Here’s a fun activity for grandparents to do with long distant grandchildren. Paste a photo of the two of you on a piece of cardboard, cut it into puzzle pieces making the difficulty appropriate to the age of the child, and pop it in an envelope with the words, “Put this together and see who loves and misses you!”
Our book is filled with over 200 heartfelt, fun activities such as this – we hope you’ll want to share it with your readers.
We’d also like to start a blog and would appreciate any help/suggestions you might give us.
With thanks,
Sue
