3 Father’s Day Poems for Granddad

Filed under: Poems: Grandfather, Uncategorized — Nana @ 5:44 pm

Father’s Day is coming. Don’t forget the granddads! With so many grandparents helping to raise their grandchildren, grandfathers need to be honored on Father’s Day, too. Grandfathers are often the foundation that holds the families together, sharing the responsibilities alongside the grandmothers, giving their strength and love to those that need it the most…their grandchildren. Here are three poems grandchildren can use to honor the grandfathers in their lives:

Walk a Little Slower, Granddad

“Walk a little slower, Granddad,” said the child so small.
“I’m following in your footsteps and I don’t want to fall.
Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they’re hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Granddad,
For you are leading me.
Someday when I’m all grown up,
You’re what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child
Who’ll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So walk a little slower, Granddad,
For I must follow you.”

Granddad, I Love you

Granddad, I love you
For all that you do.
I’ll kiss you and hug you
‘Cause you love me, too.

You feed me and need me
To teach you to play,
So smile ’cause I love you
On this Father’s Day.

Granddad, Thank You

Granddad, thank you for the laughter,
For the good times that we share,
Thanks for always listening,
For trying to be fair.

Thank you for your comfort,
When things are going bad,
Thank you for the shoulder,
To cry on when I’m sad.

This poem is a reminder that
All my life through,
I’ll be thanking Heaven
For a Special Granddad like you.
