10 Grandchildren Handprint Poems for Grandparents
The following 10 Handprint Poems can be used in creating gifts from grandchildren to their grandparents for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents Day, birthdays, anniversaries, or any day grandchildren want to make their grandparents feel special. Grandchildren can add one of the poems and their handprints, with the help of an adult if needed, onto unique gifts, such as sweat shirts, T-shirts, tote bags, aprons, pillow cases, notecards, ceramic plates, coffee mugs, framed art work, etc. with colored permanent markers, acrylic paints, or fabric paints depending on the object used. Everything you need is available at your local craft store.
Note: Painting a flower pot (see Bouquet in a Pot for terracotta pot painting instructions)
Here is an idea for art work from a young grandchild: On card stock, paint a flower pot and stem with leaves, then lay the grandchild’s hand in paint (wiping off excess paint) and place it carefully on the paper at the top of the stem. The hand will be the flower. Add a handprint poem such as poem #9, date it, laminate it, frame it with decorative paper, and attach it to magnetic strips for hanging on the grandparents’ refrigerator. It will last for many years to come!
Handprint Poem #1
I miss you when we’re not together
I’m growing up so fast
See how big I’ve gotten
Since you saw me last?
As I grow, I’ll change a lot,
The years will fly right by.
You’ll wonder how I grew so quick
When and where and why?
So look upon this handprint (these handprints)
That’s hanging on your wall.
And memories will come back of me,
When I was very small.

Handprint Poem #2
Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.
I’ll be grown some day
And all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away.
So here’s a little handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

Handprint Poem #3
Children have a certain way
of growing bigger every day,
But these little hands
and this special smile
will stay in our
hearts a long, long while.

Handprint Poem #4
I made this perfect gift to share with you today,
It is one of a kind, and very unique, yet it changes everyday.
It can hold on tight and wave good-bye, it can even say hello,
It is a part of me that will grow to be, like Daddy’s when I am old.
I give to you my Hanprint ~ it is baked forever in clay,
It’s my way of saying “I love you”, on your special day!

Handprint Poem #5
This is the hand
You used to hold
When I was only
__ years old.

Handprint Poem #6
You always
clean the fingerprints
I leave upon the wall.
I seem to make a mess of things
Because I am so small.
The years will pass so quickly
I’ll soon be grown like you
And all my little fingerprints
Will surely fade from view.
So here’s a special handprint
A memory that’s true.
So you’ll recall the very day
I made this just for you!

Handprint Poem #7
My dirty little fingerprints
I’ve left on every wall,
And on the drawers and table tops,
I’ve really marked them all.
But here is one that won’t rub off,
I’m giving it to you,
Because I’m thankful for a (mother/father/grandma/etc) just like you!

Handprint Poem #8
Children have a certain way
of growing bigger every day,
But these little hands
and this special smile
will stay in our
hearts a long, long while.

Handprint Poem #9
This is my hand.
My hand will do
A 1000 loving things with you
And you will remember
When I am tall…
That once my hand
Was just this small.

Handprint Poem #10
Tiny handprints grow so fast
Their awkward groping soon will clasp
A ball, a book a sweetheart’s hand
A diploma, briefcase, a wedding band
Tiny handprints grow so strong
It doesn’t take them very long
To snap a shirt, to paint, to draw
To work hard, to drive a car
Tiny handprints grow to be
A person that is quite unique
A wonderful mix of so many things
With his own feelings, thought and dreams
Tiny handprints grow to rely
On his parents to bring him up just right
His parents pray that when he’s grown
He’ll say their job has been well done
Tiny handprints are ours to love
The sweetest gift from God above
A miracle that never is surpassed
How sad they grow up way to fast.
