Poetry is more enjoyable for grandchildren when they can act out the lines. With this poem, both grandmothers and grandchildren can get up and have fun with it through movement as they recite it. Your grandchildren may find it easier to learn the lines when they are connected to movement. This form of learning style is called kinesthetic modality. This learning style is especially effective for grandchildren who have difficulty focusing and maintaining attention.

Grandmother Came Visiting

My Grandmother came visiting,
she came to see just me.

While Grandmother was visiting,
we climbed a crooked tree,
we hid a big black shoe,
we trained a pet flea,
we played a loud kazoo,
we chased a floating leaf,
we sneezed a big A-CHOO!
we coughed 1, 2, 3,
we ate chicken soup.

When grandmother was done visiting,
she threw kisses to me.
