Grandparents and Grandchildren Together: Fun Things to Do in Ocean County, NJ

Filed under: Fun Things to Do with Grandchildren in New Jersey — Nana @ 7:09 pm

In response to my posting of Fun Things to Do with Grandchildren in New Jersey, Part II, Ocean - Warren Counties, I received the following comment from Ms. Steele, Ocean County Tourism Bureau, that I’d like to share with you:

If grandparents in Ocean County are expecting visits from their grandchildren, they might want to check out our website http://oceancountytourism.com to see what’s happening that week.  Also, in Barnegat Light, there are two great activities for older grandchildren 1) climb Old Barney (grandparents can see the view from the top at the bottom via video cam and 2) a behind the scenes dock tour at Viking Village Friday mornings at 10 am - reservations necessary, but free, at 800-292-6372 and a new nautical museum (Museum of NJ Maritime History) in Beach Haven -did you mention Surflight’s kids’ shows (meet Cinderella up close and personal after the show) and ShowPlace Ice Cream Parlour variety shows for the price of a sundae - also at the Music Man in Lavallette (same concept).

Grandparents and Grandchildren Together: 5 Kids’ Meals Tips with 5 Dipping Recipes

Filed under: Healthy Recipes — Nana @ 9:11 pm

When I visited my grandparents, meals were special. So many fresh, wholesome foods, fresh from the market or farm. We enjoyed family meals together with lots of chatter and full tummies. When my grandchildren come to visit, they want microwavable macaroni and cheese or fast food. For lunch I offer sandwiches with fresh ingredients. They turn me down. For dinner, I offer meat and a couple of veggies. They’re not interested. They want macaroni and cheese and chicken fingers. Where did it we go wrong during the past 50 years? Could it be the processed foods, fast foods, instant foods, microwavable foods, read-to-eat foods…. In my grandchildren’s words, “Duuhh.”

Grandparents and Grandchildren Together: 4 Grandma Poems

Grandma’s Gone Computer

In the not too distant past –
I remember very well–
Grandma’s tended to their knitting,
and their cookies were just swell.
They were always at the ready,
when you needed some advice.
And their sewing (I can tell you)
was available–and nice.

Well, Grandma’s not deserted you,
she dearly loves you still..
You just won’t find her cooking,
but she’s right there at the till.
She thinks about you daily–
you haven’t been forsook.
Your photos are quite handy,
in the Pentium notebook.
She scans your art work now though,
and combines it with cool sounds,
to make electronic greetings.
She prints pictures by the pound.

She’s right there when you need her,
you really aren’t alone,
She’s out now with her “‘puter pals,”
but she took her new cell phone.
You can also leave a message
on her answering machine;
or page her at the fun meet;
She’s been there since eight fifteen.

Yes, the world’s a very different place,
there is no doubt of that.
So “E” her from her web page,
or join her in a chat.
She’s joined the electronic age,
and it really seems to suit her.
So don’t expect the same old gal,
cause Grandma’s gone “Computer”
