A Grandmother’s Concerns for 2008
We always ask each other, what will this New Year bring? Beyond the hopes for our family, we worry about the things that we can’t control. This year they include (not necessarily in this order of importance) the following:
- Outsourcing…what impact will it have on our grandchildren’s future
- Global Warming…what is the truth…
- 2008 Election…where will our next President lead us…
- Nuclear Weapons…N Korea missed their end of year deadline…what now…
- War…Iraq - December - one of the lowest months in death counts, but 2007 has the highest year’s number of deaths…
- Drugs…the other war…poppy crop in Afghanistan…supports the Taliban…increased number of deaths in 2007…
- Oil…not just the price at the pump…a member of the Kennedy clan promoting Communist Venezuelan oil sales to lower income US citizens
- Immigration…crowded schools, higher property taxes, increase in cost of assistance…we can’t afford taking care of ourselves, let alone illegal immigrants…
- Social Security…will baby boomers under the age of 57 be able to receive social security benefits at age 67…or will they need to apply for assistance, too…
- Consumer Price Index to be announced Jan 16, 2008…November’s CPI alone was 4.3 percent higher than November 2006…Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment just increased by 2.3 percent…enough to live on…you do to math…

Global warming is a huge concern in my family. I wish people would take it more seriously and start to do something about it or our children will have no world to grow up in.
